This service consists of written professional feedback on your ideas or composition, identifying which editing services would best transform and complete your work. It includes:

  • A single read-through of the novel, text, or collection of ideas

  • A report on the commercial accessibility, the writing, the larger structural issues and suggestions about next steps.

 Developmental edit

This service is for when you are at the brainstorming stage. Together, we work through your ideas, developing new ones and organising them to best effect. You are then able to launch your writing project in your desired direction, working from a solid plan. There will be a written report which includes:

  • Evaluation of initial ideas and rough concept from scratch

  • Guidance on plot direction, chapter outlines and chronology.

 Structural edit

This service is an in-depth and detailed evaluation of your completed manuscript or other written text. You will be provided with a written report that evaluates the 'big picture' elements of your content, examining which of these elements are working and which could be enhanced, altered or removed altogether. For this edit, your work will be marked up with queries and comments in a way that best suits your working style. You will also receive a separate report that details a summary of recommendations and suggested next steps. The combined outcome of both documents will provide you with:

  • A detailed structural analysis of content and/or plot

  • Identification of plot holes, or issues with storyline, and suggestions to fix them

  • Notes to ensure that your sequence of events make sense

  • Character development

  • Organisation and flow of content to ensure clarity at the sentence, paragraph, and chapter levels.

 Line edit

(also known as stylistic edit)

This service is focused at the sentence and paragraph level. The purpose is not to comb your manuscript or written text for errors: a line edit evaluates the way you use language to communicate your message. This type of editing service involves:

  • Enhancing your work’s unique voice and individual tone; polishing your distinct style

  • Eliminating jargon, clichés and tautology

  • Identifying reading level/target audience and keeping it consistent throughout

  • Considering tone and formality of language, both within the text and in dialogue

  • Adjusting syntax for improved flow; considering how the sentence “sounds” in the reader’s mind.

 Copyediting

This type of editing is undertaken after all larger scale editing issues have been addressed. It purely focuses on the technical quality of the text. It includes:

  • Correcting errors in grammar, spelling and punctuation

  • Checking for omissions, inconsistencies, and repetition.

 Proofreading

This is the final stage of the editing process. It is the preparation of your written material for publication, and includes:

  • A thorough check-through of formatting accuracy and consistency

  • Ensuring that your document is free of typographical errors.
